CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Old Dutch Church seeks to provide its members, young and old, with the best program for Christian education. Morning Worship Service is held at 10:30am every Sunday in the Sanctuary. Prior to Worship Service, Sunday School classes are held in Bethany Hall at 9:30am. Superintendant Deb Sommer is currently following the Faith Alive curriculum for the education of our Elementary and Middle School age children. This curriculum gives our children a foundation of Christian morals and values through Bible stories and lessons. The High School group expands on this foundation and works to apply Christian principles and faith to their everyday lives. After Sunday School is finished, participants attend the Worship Service with the rest of the congregation. Every Sunday, there is a portion of the Worship Service we call the Children’s Sermon which is devoted to the youth of Old Dutch Church and Pastor Ken speaks directly to the children on themes that are relative to their little world. There are Children’s activity packets available in the Narthex of the Sanctuary which contain a Christian themed children’s bulletin and crayons in them. These activity packets are fun and they are very effective at keeping children occupied and quiet. We offer our Nursery on the second floor of Bethany Hall for children up to age 5.
CONFIRMATION
For the Confirmation of young people, Old Dutch Church follows Making Disciples, a one-on-one mentoring program. In addition to the reading, discussion and analysis portions of the material, there are Faith and Spirituality building activities and seminars that the mentors and confirmed engage in together. Among them, attending religious services such as a funeral or a baptism, and working on a community outreach project. When the Confirmation process has been completed, confirmands are received by the congregation as active members.

SUNDAY ADULT DISCUSSION GROUP
The Sunday Adult Discussion Group meets at 9:00am to discuss a variety of topics related to scripture. The group discussion typically focuses on a familiar Christian theme which members interpret and question through active dialogue. This theme is later repeated during Pastor Ken’s sermon in the Worship Service which begins at 10:30am.
SOUPER THURSDAYS
In 2006, Pastor Ken began the popular Souper Thursdays Adult Education program which offers delicious home-cooked soup for the body in addition to spiritually satisfying soup for the soul! This group meets at noon on days when there is not a recital scheduled. The group otherwise meets at 1:00pm, following the performance. Souper Thursdays follows the same curriculum as the Sunday Adult Discussion Group.
LENTIN SUPPERS
The Lentin Supper Programs are offered on six Wednesday evenings during the season of Lent, following Ash Wednesday. We begin with a covered-dish supper at 6:00pm and the program concludes with short bible study led by Pastor Ken. We will be studying the parables in the Gospel of Matthew this 2008 Lentin season.
